The launch of a new online portal by Land Registry will reduce the time it takes to register land or property for application relating to the whole of a title from as long as four months to just one week, accelerating property transactions.
The development has been welcomed by the industry and praised for dramatically improving the previously lengthy process. The Land Registry are also developing the application process so that their system can also process application relating to a part of a title, which we are advised should be usable later this year.

"The switch to online means we can now complete a full Land Registry application in a fraction of the time it used to take."
Jo continues, "Another key advantage of the online service is that we can now log on at any given time to check the status of the application, offering peace of mind for us and our client."
The new document registration service (e-DRS), introduced by the Land Registry this month, also means a reduction in paper consumption and postage costs.
"Later this year, the online process will also extend to plans relating to only part of the title – another leap forward for those specialising in the commercial property sector," concludes Jo.
