Not everyone can say they love a job so much that they’ve done it for 40 years.
Well Jayne Cassidy from our Commercial Property Team can.
She’s celebrating just that – four decades in conveyancing this month.
And she’s soared great heights since first taking on that job as an office junior on a YTS Scheme in 1983 at Ackerley Heaton & Pigot in Wigan (now Houghton, Pigot & Co).
She progressed through the ranks.
From typist through to secretary, she spent 12 years there in total.
Back then lawyers didn’t specialise so she also had experience in Matrimonial, Wills, Probate, Court of Protection and of course Conveyancing.
She enjoyed another long spell at Fruhman & Davies & Co of Manchester (which is now merged with Glaisyers) where she left in 2014.
Then she realised she could deal with residential matters herself and took on a fee earner role – and bagged herself a secretary too.
Investor clients became her interest – and she crossed paths with Nicola Fairhust from our Commercial Property Team!
Jayne went for a role at Napthens in Preston (for the shorter commute) where she stayed until 2021 In that time she’d progressed to Associate and team leader of 12 staff in the Residential Team.
But it’s thanks to Nicola Fairhurst that we are lucky to have Jayne with Marsden Rawsthorn today.
And the rest – as they say – is history.
Jayne said: “My commute is the shortest I have ever had now as Marsdens agreed I could work remotely so I am back doing investor work for pretty much the same client base I had in Manchester and working from home – win win!
The best thing about the job is repeat clients. I’ve some who have followed me around since the 1990s and are with me now at Marsden Rawsthorn.
The technology has changed over the years so, of course, this is possible where it wouldn’t have been back in the 1980s on manual typewriters! Definitely an improvement there!”
