New consultations: Government consults on proposals for extra annual leave for employees who are also unpaid carers, and domestic abuse survivors’ rights

Employers may wish to respond to a consultation on new rights to unpaid leave for employees who are also unpaid carers, and a review of employment rights for domestic abuse survivors.

Employers can now respond to a government consultation proposing that employers provide a week’s unpaid leave each year for employees who are also unpaid carers for an elderly or disabled individual, or someone with physical or mental health issues. The care being provided must be long-term – six or 12 months has been suggested.

The consultation closes on 3 August 2020.

Employers can also comment on a government review of the employment rights available to survivors of domestic abuse, including flexible working and unplanned leave laws.

The deadline is 9 September 2020.
