Welcome to our new conveyancer, Jodie Belcher

Jodie Belcher conveyancer in the commercial property team

We say a very warm welcome to our new conveyancer Jodie Belcher. She has joined our Commercial Property Team this week.

We’ve done a Q&A session to help you get to know here a little better as she settles in.

What will you be doing in your new role?

I am a commercial property conveyancer, currently working towards my Licensed Conveyancer qualification. My job involves acting for investors, industrial site owners, farmers, livery owners, retailers, and lenders.

I have worked previously for most high street lenders and equity release lenders as well as private lenders and bridging lenders.

A normal day includes drafting, advice, client and case management, and liaising with the company/commercial department on corporate support matters.

Where did you work previously?

I have previously worked for Birchall Blackburn in Manchester as well as smaller firms such as Adlington Law and Swift Lawyers.

How did you get started in your area of law?

I began my career in conveyancing as an assistant in remortgage, before progressing to transactional (sale/purchase) at Birchall Blackburn whilst studying part-time for my law degree.

This gave me a confidence boost when it came to land law at university and vice-versa.

I gained early experience by working as an assistant which allowed me to progress quickly to managing my own cases.

I really enjoyed working with my previous firms and decided to continue in the area following completion of my degree.

I did residential property for a while, almost exclusively, but decided to expand on my knowledge by progressing into commercial property.

Early in my studies, I was certain I was either going into contract or company law.

What strengths do you being to the team?

I am good at drafting contract paperwork and have experience working with small asset sales, so I will be able to help other colleagues should they require the help.

It has been nice to work with residential sales and purchases to have a more personal aspect with clients who are buying their homes, however I’m looking forward to the transition into commercial property.

I have quite a high level of focus and drive.

Through previous employment, I qualified as a butcher and fishmonger!

What are your interests outside of work?

I like going to gigs and watching true crime documentaries.

I also enjoy reading crime and thriller fiction books – the bigger the plot twist the better.

What would your former colleagues have to say?

They’d say I’m willing to help where able, quiet and hardworking but wanting the best for my clients.
